Captive programs are owned and controlled by you or individual companies participating in a “co-op-like” arrangement. Their primary purpose is to insure the operating risks of its owners. In short, you are your own insurance company. Captive programs are similar to your deal operations in that your insurance program can also become a profit center.

Captives can be extremely complicated insurance arrangements with different layers of ownership, responsibility, and liabilities, so it is important to have an experienced team on your side to walk you through all the details. At Transure, we offer two types of captive programs:

• Rental: A captive owned by an outside organization and open to participants for a fee. In this arrangement, members “rent” licenses and capital from the captive owner. These programs are typically used by companies that prefer not to form their own captive or for a program that is too small to justify incorporating its own captive.
• Member-Owned: A captive established by a group of companies with similar businesses or exposures writing only the risks of its owners and/or affiliates.
